Preparing the ingredients
- Put some olive oil into a small bowl.
- Add a tiny pinch of salt and some black pepper to the oil. Stir well.
- Toast the slices of bread until they are slightly brown. I use wholemeal bread, you may use multi-grain bread or white bread. But I think grained bread would taste better with this savoury mix.
- Spoon some of the flavoured oil over the toast just before eating. You may also choose to dip the toast into the oil though.
Optional:
You may want to rub a piece of cut garlic (with skin on), or tomato across the toast prior spooning the flavoured oil over the toast. This gives the toast a slight hint of garlic or tomato flavour without them being too over-powering. It's a rustic approach in certain parts of the Mediterranean world.
Bon appetite!
